Guided by Curiosity, Grounded in Compassion
Get to Know Me
Hi,
I’m “Jane” I-Chen Liu, a mental health therapist and owner of KareKounseling, PLLC. I am an elder millennial, who now enjoys walking, gardening, spending time with my two kids, and a nice cup of hot beverage.
Before having my own private practice, I was a counselor for a crisis unit, a youth and family therapist, a chemical dependency counselor, and a case manager/therapist for adults and older adults who were homebound. With 16 years in the field, I continue to find joy and compassion working in the mental health field. In recent years, I’ve been focusing on using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy(CBT), Mindfulness, Self-Compassion, Eye Movement Desensitizing Reprocessing (EMDR), IFS therapy, and Somatic Experiencing to help clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, and PTSD symptoms.
I’m originally from Taiwan, and I’ve been fortunate to have the experience of living both in the East coast for 7 years and now living in the Pacific Northwest for 11 years. (That’s why my practice, KareKounseling PLLC, now serves residents in the Lynnwood area, as well as in Washington State). I received my MA in Counseling from West Virginia University, and BFA in Communication Arts from Fu-Jen Catholic University, and BA in English from Fu-Jen Catholic University. (Yes, I do LOVE reading Jane Austin. And no…I still have no interest in reading Transcendentalism. Maybe I will as I am getting older).
In recent years, I’ve become deeply passionate about integrating parts work, somatic approaches, and attachment theory into my practice. I hold onto the belief that curiosity gently reveals complexity—a guiding principle in my work with clients. Facing perimenopause myself, a long history of PMDD, and recovery from chronic dieting, I am listening more to my body, being kind to my body, and experiencing peace from within.

EMDR intensives are priced differently based on length and format. Please visit the EMDR Intensive page for full details.
My fee is $200 per 50-minute session.
I specialize in depth work with clients navigating trauma, inner child healing, and attachment wounds. I integrate EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Somatic Experiencing to support lasting healing. I’ve found that showing up fully—both for my clients and for myself—requires that I maintain a sustainable, grounded practice.
I offer a limited number of reduced-fee spots for current or established clients during times of financial transition. Please feel free to reach out if you’d like to inquire about availability.
I am currently in-network with Premera, First Choice, and LifeWise.
I am in the process of phasing out of Regence, Cigna, and Aetna. If you are currently using one of these plans, I will notify you well in advance of any changes and offer support through the transition. (If you are curious why I am transitioning from insurance to private pay, you can read more about it here).
If I’m not in-network with your insurance, I can provide a superbill (a detailed receipt) for possible reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits. Every plan is different, so I recommend contacting your insurance provider to ask:
Do I have out-of-network mental health coverage?
What is my deductible, and has it been met?
How much will I be reimbursed per session with a licensed therapist?
Good Faith Estimate (for Private Pay Clients)
In accordance with the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate outlining the expected cost of therapy services. This will be provided at the start of treatment.
Working with Jane | Trauma Therapy for Deep Healing
What can I expect in the first session?
In our first session, we’ll take time to get to know each other. I’ll ask about what brings you in, your goals for therapy, and we’ll explore what safety and comfort look like for you in the therapeutic space. You won’t be asked to dive into trauma right away — we’ll move at your pace.
How do you work with trauma?
I specialize in EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Somatic Experiencing. These approaches gently help you process and heal the emotional and physical effects of trauma. You don’t have to “talk it all out” if you don’t want to— we work with the body, nervous system, and your inner parts to support deep and lasting healing.
Do I have to talk about everything that happened to me?
Not at all. You are in control of your story. Many of the approaches I use allow healing without going into graphic detail about the past. We'll focus on how your experiences are showing up in your life now — and how to move toward more ease and connection. However, some clients do find talking helpful, and that’s also totally welcome!
What’s your approach to working with the body in therapy?
Trauma often lives in the body, not just the mind. Somatic Experiencing and mindfulness (and Even EMDR) are tools I use to help you tune into your body’s signals — and learn how to regulate, release, and feel grounded. This is always done gently, with consent and collaboration.
Do you work with people who have emotionally immature parents?
Yes. A big part of my work involves helping people navigate complicated relationships with caregivers. Together, we can explore how these dynamics affected your sense of self and boundaries — and begin to build more internal freedom and clarity.
How often will we meet, and for how long?
Most clients start with weekly sessions, though this can be adjusted based on your needs. Some clients choose to do EMDR intensives (longer sessions for deeper work) instead of weekly therapy. We’ll discuss what makes the most sense for your goals and capacity.
What is an EMDR intensive?
An EMDR intensive is a longer therapy session (2-4 hours) designed to accelerate trauma healing. Instead of processing in weekly 50-minute increments, we can spend focused time addressing key memories or stuck points. Many clients find this approach efficient and empowering — especially for deeper wounds or life transitions. To learn more about accelerated trauma healing EMDR intensive, click here. Do you work with clients who have complex trauma or childhood abuse?
Yes. I have extensive experience working with individuals who grew up in emotionally unsafe or chaotic environments. I offer a supportive, non-judgmental space to untangle those early experiences, reconnect with your inner child, and build new patterns rooted in safety and self-worth.
I’m not sure if I’m “traumatized” — is therapy still for me?
Absolutely. You don’t need a diagnosis to start healing. Many of my clients come in feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected — and later realize those patterns were shaped by earlier emotional wounds. You’re welcome here, just as you are.
Can I work with you if I’m also in coaching, nutrition therapy, or other healing work?
Definitely. Many of my clients are also working with coaches, nutritionists, or bodyworkers. I see therapy as one part of a holistic healing journey, and I’m happy to collaborate with other providers (with your permission) to ensure aligned care.
