EMDR Intensives Kickstart Group

If you've been thinking, "I know I want to offer EMDR Intensives, but I don't know where to begin," this group was created for you.

Blurred image of green foliage with sunlight filtering through, creating bokeh effect.

The EMDR Intensives Kickstart Group is designed for any EMDR-trained therapist who wants to begin offering EMDR Intensives but isn't sure where to start. Whether you're newly trained, working toward EMDRIA Certification, already certified, or simply exploring how to incorporate intensives into your practice, this group is for you.

Together, we'll work through both the clinical and business logistics of building an EMDR Intensives program. This is a collaborative, supportive space where you'll gain practical guidance, ask questions, receive feedback, and connect with other therapists who are building their intensive practices alongside you. Members are encouraged to share ideas, troubleshoot challenges, celebrate successes, and hold one another accountable as they move from planning to implementation.

Topics may include:

  • Designing and structuring EMDR Intensives

  • Client screening and readiness

  • Scheduling, pacing, and treatment planning

  • Nervous system regulation before, during, and after intensives

  • Integrating EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and somatic approaches

  • Documentation, consent forms, and practice policies

  • Pricing and creating intensive packages

  • Marketing and attracting the right clients

  • Developing workflows and systems that support your practice

  • Peer consultation, feedback, accountability, and ongoing support

Please note: The EMDR Intensives Kickstart Group is a business and implementation consultation group designed to help therapists successfully develop and launch EMDR Intensives in their practices. While we may discuss clinical considerations related to intensive work, this group is not EMDRIA certification consultation and does not count toward the consultation hours required for EMDRIA Certification. If you are seeking consultation hours toward EMDRIA Certification, please see my individual or group EMDR consultation offerings.

Why Work With an Integrative, Nonjudgmental EMDR Consultant

My EMDR Journey

Hi! My name is “Jane” I-Chen Liu, MA. LMHC. SEP™, a somatic IFS EMDR therapist in Lynnwood, WA.

My journey with EMDR began in 2013, when I completed my Level I training, followed by Level II in 2015. But the road toward certification took much longer than I expected.

Like many therapists, I spent years building experience in community mental health, accumulating consultation hours, and learning how to sit with the complexity of trauma work in real clinical settings. After opening my private practice in 2020, EMDR became one of the primary modalities I used with clients.

Over time, I began to notice something missing.

I saw how healing could become limited when we focused only on memory processing without attending to protective parts, attachment dynamics, or the wisdom held in the body and nervous system. That realization led me deeper into my own professional development.

I went on to become a certified IFS therapist and a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP™). Through those trainings, I came to believe that trauma therapy cannot fully happen while bypassing parts work or neglecting the nervous system.

In 2025, I chose to retake the EMDR Basic Training and eventually became certified. Looking back, the entire process took me 12 years.

I would not want it to take you that long.

That is part of why I feel passionate about supporting newer EMDR therapists. I know how overwhelming and isolating this journey can sometimes feel, especially when working with complex trauma. I also know how meaningful it is to have consultation that is integrative, supportive, and grounded in real clinical experience.

My goal is not simply to help you complete certification requirements. I want to help you become a trauma therapist who feels confident, embodied, attuned, and connected to your clinical intuition.

My Consultation Style

My approach to consultation is conversational, informative, and collaborative. I believe consultation should be a space where therapists can think out loud honestly, ask questions openly, and grow without shame.

I especially enjoy helping therapists:

  • Understand blocked processing through an attachment and parts-work lens

  • Work more gently with highly activated or shutdown nervous systems

  • Strengthen pacing, resourcing, and case conceptualization skills

  • Integrate EMDR with IFS-informed and somatic approaches

  • Develop greater trust in themselves as clinicians

I know many therapists carry their own inner critics into consultation spaces. My hope is to create an environment that feels supportive, engaging, and growth-oriented while still offering thoughtful clinical feedback and guidance.

Who This EMDR Consultation Is For

I enjoy working with newer therapists, trauma therapists, and clinicians who value depth, humility, cultural awareness, and embodied healing work.

This consultation space may be a good fit if you are:

🌿 Working toward EMDR certification

🌿 Wanting support with complex trauma (CPTSD) or dissociation cases

🌿 Hoping to integrate IFS, attachment, parts work, and somatic awareness into EMDR

🌿 Looking for a consultation space that feels collaborative and human

Frequently Asked Questions

• Are you an EMDRIA Approved Consultant?

I am an EMDRIA Approved Consultant-in-Training (CIT). As a Consultant-in-Training, I am approved by EMDRIA to provide consultation toward EMDRIA Certification under the mentorship of an EMDRIA Approved Consultant.

To become an EMDRIA Certified Therapist, clinicians are required to complete 20 hours of consultation. Up to 15 of those 20 hours may be completed with an EMDRIA Approved Consultant-in-Training. In addition, up to 10 of the 20 hours may be completed in a group consultation format, while the remaining hours must be individual consultation.

If you have questions about where you are in the certification process, I'm happy to help you determine what consultation hours you still need.

• How are consultation hours documented?

I maintain attendance records for all consultation sessions. While I do not provide ongoing documentation after each consultation session, I can verify attendance and consultation hours if needed.

• Is observation of my clinical work required?

If you would like me to provide a peer recommendation letter, I will need to observe your EMDR work before writing that letter.

Please note that your required Consultant Recommendation Letter must come from an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, not a Consultant-in-Training.

• What observations do you accept?

If observation is needed for a peer recommendation letter, I accept any of the following:

  • Recorded EMDR sessions

  • Live observation

  • Role plays demonstrating your EMDR skills

The goal is simply to observe your ability to competently implement the eight phases of EMDR therapy.

• What criteria do you use when deciding whether to provide a peer recommendation letter?

My primary consideration is whether you demonstrate competency in implementing all eight phases of the EMDR protocol with confidence, flexibility, and clinical judgment.

The purpose of observation is not to evaluate perfection—it's to ensure you are practicing EMDR safely, ethically, and effectively.

• How do you protect recorded clinical material?

If you choose to share a recorded session, recordings may be uploaded through a secure Dropbox folder for review.

After consultation, you may delete the recording from the shared folder.

If you prefer not to upload recordings, we can also schedule an individual consultation and review the recording together during the consultation session.

As always, please ensure you have appropriate client consent before sharing any clinical material.

• What happens if I miss a group consultation?

I understand that emergencies and unexpected situations happen.

If you are unable to attend a scheduled group consultation, the consultation fee is still charged, as your spot was reserved.

If our schedules allow, I am happy to meet individually for one hour so you can make up the missed consultation time.

• How long do you retain consultation records?

Attendance records are securely stored electronically through Sessions Health and are retained as part of my consultation records.

• Why did you become an EMDR consultant?

My own EMDR journey has shaped how I approach consultation.

I completed my initial EMDR training in 2013, but I didn't become EMDRIA Certified until 2025. During those years, I sought consultation from many different supervisors and consultants. Each one contributed something valuable to my growth, and along the way I accumulated a wealth of clinical knowledge, practical strategies, and different perspectives.

Becoming a consultant is my way of giving back to the EMDR community.

I want to create the kind of consultation space I wish every therapist had—a place where you can ask questions without fear of judgment, bring in difficult cases, think out loud, and remain curious. My goal isn't simply to help you complete certification requirements. It's to help you become a more confident, flexible, and attuned EMDR therapist.

I believe knowledge grows when it is shared generously. I strive to provide honest guidance, encourage clinical curiosity, and support therapists in developing confidence in their own clinical judgment.
